I mean what else can Jayden Daniels do to cement his legacy as the Washington Commanders' quarterback of both the present and future? The rookie sensation made his biggest play of the year when it mattered most in the final seconds against the Chicago Bears and it resulted in the Commanders' most exciting win of the 2024 season.
"Nothing but God, man, nothing but God. Without him, I didn't think I'd be playing this week," Daniels said after the game. "But man, all the glory to God… [It was] a lot of long hours and long days, but i put myself in position to go out here, but like I said nothing but God, man… We keep fighting, man, we keep fighting. We have a great locker room and a great brotherhood, [there's] nobody out here I'd rather go to war with."
The Commanders trailed by three points before Daniels uncorked a deep pass that bounced off the hands of Bears defenders and landed squarely in the hands of wide receiver Noah Brown, a player who didn't even join the team until August 28 – after the Houston Texans cut him.
It's honestly the easiest Hail Mary catch that comes to mind. Somehow, the Bears committed the unforgivable sin of letting a receiver get behind the defense and of course, the football gods punished them by placing Brown in the right place at the exact right time.
Now, the Commanders are 6-2, while the Bears drop to 4-3. This kind of win will undoubtedly go a very long way in the playoff race, especially when considering the Bears are an NFC team.
Wow. Sometimes, there isn't much analysis behind what happens and this is easily one of those moments. Daniels and Brown made a play, while the Bears failed to seal the deal and eek out a huge road win.
That's life in the NFL, baby. And both rookies are guaranteed to learn valuable lessons.
