The Philadelphia Eagles' defense started off sloppy in Sunday's 37-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
They gave up a touchdown on the opening drive but then things clicked for them the rest of the way as they allowed only 10 more points.
After the game, head coach Nick Sirianni admitted that the Eagles' "dawg" mentality is what kept them from completely collapsing.
“Just dawg mentality,” Sirianni said. “Games start off in different ways every once in a while. No one is in a panic mode when they go down and score. They had some good third-down conversions. I think a lot of that (was) Joe Burrow is a hell of a football player, and Ja’Marr Chase was able to get a lot of plays there as well and (Mike) Gesicki.
"They got good players. We knew they were going to make plays. We talked about that last night, ‘Good stuff is going to happen today and some bad stuff is going to happen today. How do you respond?’ It’s always going to be about your response.”
The Eagles were able to hold Joe Burrow and the rest of Cincinnati's offense to 280 total yards. In their last three wins, the Eagles have given up just 36 points and held those teams to under 300 total yards.
That comes after allowing 51 points in their first two games of the season.
Heading into this matchup the Eagles' defense remained a question mark but it's starting to look and feel more legit.
And they should only continue to improve against a stale 2-6 Jacksonville Jaguars team in Week 9.
