Browns can’t mishandle Nick Chubb’s return just because an unfortunate injury popped up elsewhere

The Cleveland Browns likely did not imagine that when running back Nick Chubb returned this season, the team would be 1-5 on the year and fighting to keep their season alive.
That is what is happening and if all goes well, Chubb will be back on the field for the first time since last season on Sunday when the Browns host the Cincinnati Bengals.
“Nick’s working very hard. Just spent some time with him just now,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said on Monday. “He’s going to take this thing day by day and see where we go. But this only comes with hard work.”
Unfortunately, the struggling offense will still have a shorthanded running back room when that happens. On Monday, Stefanski revealed that Jerome Ford would be “week-to-week” with a hamstring injury.
Cleveland can’t expect Chubb to come in and be his normal self right away. The Browns will have to still heavily rely on D’Onta Foreman and Pierre Strong Jr., as Chubb ramps back up. Foreman and Strong ran the ball well against the Philadelphia Eagles and the offense will need that for at least the short-term future.
After a major knee surgery and being away from the field for over a year, there was always going to be a ramp-up period with the Browns. Not that Cleveland would, but they can’t overdo things with him out of the gates just because the No. 2 running back is out.
“I think for me and for Nick and for this team, he just wants to do his job, whatever that may be, but we’re not getting too far ahead of ourselves. Really just worried about the day-to-day with him.”
Additionally, the Browns still have safety Grant Delpit in the concussion protocol, and center Ethan Pocic’s status for this week is up in the air after missing the Eagles game.
Despite the Browns being 1-5 this season, Sunday inside Huntington Bank Field will be electric with Chubb returning to the field, a player that Cleveland has loved since his arrival.
