The NFL trade deadlines is quickly approaching. Accordingly, teams must decipher if they want to buy, sell, or hold when it comes to getting rid of or obtaining assets to help them win this season.
This week, the New York Jets acquired star wide receiver Davante Adams in a deal with the Las Vegas Raiders and the Seattle Seahawks added some depth on the defensive line, trading for veteran defensive end Roy Robertson-Harris from the Jacksonville Jaguars. Amari Cooper was also traded to the Buffalo Bills.
The New Orleans Saints are 2-4, with an important matchup with the Denver Broncos looming on Thursday Night Football. The outcome against Sean Payton's new team could play a massive role in how New Orleans attacks the deadline.
But who might actually be available at the deadline? Here's a look at 5 Saints players who are going to be mentioned in trade talks this season and an update on their tradability. For each one, I am exploring the simple question: Will the Saints realistically have a buyer for ____ at the trade deadline?
1. EDGE Chase Young – Yes
Young has been one of the best defensive lineman for the Saints this season. While the sacks have not piled up, his pressure numbers are among the best in the NFC. He is top ten in that category.
Young is only on a one-year deal, so a team acquiring him would not have to worry about a long-term deal accompanying him. He is a rental that could help a contender's pass rush unit immediately.
2. RB Alvin Kamara – Yes
This would be a mighty painful one for New Orleans. Kamara's contract is not an easy one for a new team to navigate. He's under contract for one more season and already has two void years to spread out the money on the deal.
His cap hit is just over $29 million in 2025. Regardless, Kamara is one of the top running backs in football. A team with a multitude of cap space that needs another impactful weapon on offense may look the Saints' way for the veteran RB.
3. CB Paulson Adebo – Yes
Adebo is in the last year of his rookie deal. He's a cornerback option that won't cost much in terms of money for teams looking for secondary help.
Adebo has been one of the most interesting defenders in football this season. He has totaled three interceptions and ten pass deflections. At times, he has really impressed. Other times, Adebo has been called for eight penalties on the season.
The Saints probably won't extend him at year's end, so moving on may be in their best interest. He can bring value to another defense at the deadline.
4. TE Juwan Johnson – No
Johnson has had a frustrating season. After beginning the season on the shelf due to injury, he has not quite gotten back up to speed when it comes to production. Foster Moreau has been the bigger red zone threat at tight end for the Saints.
All that being said, Johnson's receiving game has grown over the years. He was a key contributor in 2022 for New Orleans and is a locker room leader for the offense. Ultimately, though, I'm not sure how many suitors there will be for him at this point of his career.
5. CB Marshon Lattimore – Yes
Lattimore is playing some of the best ball of his career. As he approaches thirty years old, you would never know it. Teams are simply not throwing to his covered receiver. Instead, they're choosing to attack underneath or downfield against Adebo.
Lattimore has had his disagreements with Dennis Allen over the years and moving on from one or both by the trade deadline would surprise nobody in New Orleans. He's still one of the top cornerbacks in football, and plenty of teams will have interest in him. Lattimore is under contract through 2026.
We will see how the trade deadline shakes out for the Saints. Plenty of key decisions loom.
