The New Orleans Saints are in a tough spot this Thursday night when they face the Denver Broncos.
Head coach Dennis Allen said during his press conference that wide receiver Rashid Shaheed will undergo meniscus surgery which could end his season. On top of that, number one wide receiver Chris Olave will also miss the game with a concussion he suffered in the 51-27 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
It's a brutal blow to the Saints as they are looking to get back on track after losing their last four games. Not having both Olave and Shaheed will make things significantly harder for rookie quarterback Spencer Rattler in his second start.
Shaheed has been the biggest threat for the Saints offense this season. He has 20 receptions but has averaged 17.5 yards per reception with three touchdowns. They use Shaheed as the field stretcher and he leads the team in targets with 41.
With a meniscus injury, the best-case scenario for Shaheed will be anywhere from 2-6 weeks. If they have to do a full repair, he would miss the rest of the season. The extent of the injury will be known once they perform surgery.
Olave is the best route runner on the roster but teams have put most of their focus on stopping him. He has caught 23 of his 29 targets for 280 yards and one touchdown.
With those players out, the Saints will be relying on rookie fifth-round pick Bub Means and UDFA out of Yale Mason Tipton.
