The San Francisco 49ers made Ricky Pearsall's place on the active roster official on Saturday, clearing him to make his debut against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan had already confirmed on Friday that rookie first-round receiver Pearsall would be activated from the non-football injury list and play in the Super Bowl rematch with the Chiefs, exactly 50 days on from being shot through the chest in an attempted armed robbery in San Francisco.

To make room for Pearsall, the 49ers placed kicker Matthew Wright on injured reserve. Wright suffered a dislocated shoulder in his Niners debut against the Seattle Seahawks last week.

With Wright and Jake Moody unavailable, the 49ers will use their third kicker in as many weeks, and they made the expected move of elevating Anders Carlson from the practice squad.

Carlson was far from reliable for the Green Bay Packers last season, missing six field goals and five extra points in the regular season. He also missed a key fourth-quarter field goal in the Packers' Divisional Round playoff defeat to the 49ers.

In addition, the 49ers also elevated safety Jaylen Mahoney from the practice squad to again serve as the fourth safety in the absence of Talanoa Hufanga.

It is the third time Mahoney has been elevated. The 49ers cannot do so again this season and will need to sign the rookie undrafted free agent to the active roster if they wish to utilize him anymore in 2024. San Francisco this week signed veteran safety Adrian Amos to the practice squad.
