The Keenan Allen breakout game finally arrived for the Chicago Bears in Week 6.
It took longer than expected but it felt so good to finally see it come to fruition for Allen and the rest of the Bears offense against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In the game, Allen scored his first touchdown since joining his new team and one drive later scored his second with the Bears. Allen finished the game with five receptions for 41 yards and the two scores.
The reason this outcome took so long to come together was due to an early season heel injury that forced Allen to miss two of the first five games. Even after returning in Week 4, it still seemed like Allen wasn't fully himself.
"It was big time," Allen said after the game. "When you take a little break from football and you come back, you gotta get back into the groove of things sometimes. Just keep playing, don't try to get frustrated and stay ready."
The veteran wide receiver looked to be fully back in London. Four of Allen's five receptions on Sunday were on third down or fourth down, including his first touchdown of the game.
"We've all seen it, right? He's had a long career. He's made a lot of plays. He's always open," head coach Matt Eberflus said after the win. "I've tried to double cover him in front, behind, sideways. It doesn't work. He's always open. So, he's an exciting player."
On the second touchdown, the Bears had a favorable one-on-one look on the outside. Quarterback Caleb Williams was able to loft it up to Allen, who then was able to toe tap his feet for the score.
Allen was the Bears lone primary weapon that was still patiently waiting for his big game to happen. DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet, and D'Andre Swift all had their moments to shine during the first five games and finally Allen got to have his day. And that just goes to show how many mouths the offense has to feed.
"As a quarterback, I don't think you need to look at one person," Allen explained. "We got guys you can get the ball to so it is what it is."
It was great to see Allen finally come alive for the first time in a Bears uniform and hopefully this is just the start for what this offense can look like going forward into the rest of the season.
