Texas safety Derek Williams Jr. has struggled to stay healthy the last few weeks with a hamstring issue. On Monday, coach Steve Sarkisian said Williams will miss the rest of the season.

The sophomore played Saturday against Oklahoma and had four tackles and a forced fumble but at some point injured his knee. The severity is unknown.

“He’ll have surgery here in a couple of weeks,” Sarkisian said.

Also on the injury front, Sarkisian said receiver Isaiah Bond is day to day with an ankle injury. Bond left the OU game early after making one catch for five yards. He appeared to get thrown down in awkward fashion by OU’s Billy Bowman Jr.

“Just spoke to @isaiahbond_. He’s out for the rest of the game but nothing major,” Bond’s agent Damien Butler posted on X during the game.

“I feel better about it today than I felt Saturday, when he couldn’t finish the ball game,” Sarkisian told reporters on Monday. “So I’m optimistic, but like I said, we’ll see. He’ll be day to day. We’ll see how it looks as we get kind of into Wednesday, Thursday.”

The Longhorns are not obligated to disclose the status of injured players until the SEC availability report is released later this week.

Knock on wood, because six games through the season, Texas is doing pretty well on the injury front, all things considered.

The Horns have successfully navigated their way through a running back depth problem by losing two players during training camp. The offense also got through the first five games even though quarterback Quinn Ewers suffered a sprained abdominal injury. Defensively, the Horns have fared well.
