The Las Vegas Raiders really need a win in Week 6, as they are looking to take on an opponent it feels like they know all too well. The Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers are somewhat of a rivalry, and we will get to see that on Sunday. However, there are two new faces in town at quarterback Justin Fields and Russell Wilson.
Fields is the presumed starter, as he has had some impressive wins so far to start the season. And, the Steelers look pretty good in some areas, and beatable in other areas. We know about guys like T.J. Watt, one of the best players in the league and resembles Maxx Crosby a lot. But, other guys could hurt the Raiders, too.
With this being such an important game for the Raiders, I went behind enemy lines and asked A to Z Sports Pittsburgh's Rob Gregson some questions that are important to the Raiders and their fans.
Three important questions for Raiders vs. Steelers
What are your early returns on Fields? How does he fit in this scheme, and how are the weapons around him with his play style? From the outside looking in, It seems like they started the season strong there but have had issues.
In my opinion, Justin Fields has done more than enough to show he should be the team's starting QB. Sure the consistency hasn’t been there as of yet, but he is the reason they won the Los Angeles Chargers game, and he put the team on his back to rally against the Indianapolis Colts. The offense around him is either reeling with injuries or just outright deficient in talent. His legs and improved processing, ball location, and anticipation have been noteworthy.
Mike Tomlin is the head coach every team wants when it comes to consistency. In your opinion, what has he done this year to prep a group that made a few big changes this offseason such as the two at QB? And how does he keep everyone bought in?
If you talk to anyone in Pittsburgh or around the team, it’s clear that Mike Tomlin gets buy-in because of his commitment to motivation. He’s not only a wordsmith but he has the results and tenure to back up his words and actions. So when the team is prepping as hard as they are in Latrobe during camp, or going pads in season, they stay locked in because they know their headman will do anything for them. I’m sure players like T.J. Watt and Cam Heyward were skeptical of the QB moves at first glance but their trust in Coach T far outweighs any doubt.
What's one of the biggest areas of the Steelers' defense you think even a poor Raiders offense could exploit on Sunday?
Vegas will undoubtedly attack the slot corner position as well as the EDGE spot opposite T.J. Watt. The Steelers are down to practice squad players at EDGE #2 following injuries to three rostered players. And at slot CB, the team is starting a rookie UDFA who, let’s just say is still finding his footing in the NFL. If Vegas puts up points, it’s going to come from exploiting those two Steelers' weaknesses.
