The Tennessee Vols' offense never really got going last weekend in the program's 19-14 loss to the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville.
Tennessee barely moved the ball in the first half before opening the second half with a couple of drives that ended with Dylan Sampson touchdowns.
Those two scoring drives were the only times that the Vols' offense looked in sync. And it wasn't enough to get a win against a Razorbacks squad that looked more motivated and energetic than Tennessee.
An anonymous SEC coach told ESPN this week that he was surprised that Tennessee wasn't able to run the ball better against Arkansas. The coach also said he didn't think that the Vols' wide receivers didn't play great.
"I thought they would be able to run the ball better," said the SEC coach to ESPN's Heather Dinich. "I didn't ever feel like they got into a rhythm throwing the ball in their RPO game, and some of that was Arkansas' scheme. They did a nice job of making it hard. But Tennessee's receivers didn't play great and were banged up."
There's certainly plenty to dissect from Tennessee's loss to Arkansas. But ultimately, it comes down to the fact that the Vols simply had an "off night" in Fayetteville. And sometimes that happens in college football. Winning on the road in the SEC is incredibly difficult. Sometimes a loss simply comes down to the fact that one team is more focused and locked in (and that appeared to be the case in UT's loss to Arky).
The Vols can't let that one game define them as a team. All of their goals, after all, are still very much achievable this season.
