The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been missing two key starters for several weeks. It sounds like there's a legitimate chance that Bucs fans see them on the field on Sunday when the Bucs and New Orleans Saints square off.
Todd Bowles met with the media on Friday afternoon, and he gave an update on the status of safety Antoine Winfield, Jr. and tackle Luke Goedeke, among several other players.
"Winfield was limited. He did a lot of things, and that will probably be a game time decision, but very close if he doesn't play, but hopefully he can. Goedeke passed his tests, so he's trending forward that way."
That's an encouraging sign for both. The Bucs' starting right tackle (concussion) and superstar safety (ankle/foot) have both been out since the team's Week 1 win over the Washington Commanders.
Winfield, Jr.'s absence has been glaring, particularly last Thursday in a 36-30 overtime loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Kirk Cousins threw for an astounding 509 yards on Tampa Bay's defense. It's clear that Winfield, Jr's experience and communication is missed tremendously.
DL Calijah Kancey appears to be a go, per Bowles, after a full week of practice. Bowles added that WR Jalen McMillan (hamstring) should be good to go and RB Rachaad White (foot) will be a game time decision. Safety Jordan Whitehead (groin) sounds likely to go, per Bowles.
"He had two good days, so I feel good about where he is right now."
However, the news wasn't all positive on Friday. Bowles noted that center Graham Barton, who's dealing with a hamstring issue that's kept him out of practice this week, will be out on Sunday. DB Christian Izien (elbow/groin), WR Kam Johnson (ankle), and WR Trey Palmer (concussion) will all also be out, per Bowles.
The Bucs and Saints are set to kickoff at 1:00 pm ET from the Superdome on Sunday.
