For the third week in a row, the Houston Texans will be without one of their top play-makers on offense.

Running back Joe Mixon has been officially ruled out on Sunday in a pivotal Week 5 matchup against the Buffalo Bills after missing each day of practice this week.

Mixon is still dealing with an ankle injury suffered during a banned hip-drop tackle in Week 2 against the Chicago Bears. Mixon's injury is considered to be week-to-week however he has not suffered any setback in his recovery according to Aaron Wilson.

Without Mixon in the lineup against the Bills, the Texans will once again have to call upon Cam Akers and Dare Ogunbowale to step up in his place. Last week, Akers rushed for 53 yards on 13 carries while Ogunbowale scored the game-winning TD.

Fellow running back Dameon Pierce's availability for Sunday's game will have to be decided over the weekend. Pierce was listed as questionable after returning to practice on Friday. Pierce has missed each of the last three games with a hamstring injury. Here's the rest of the Texans' injury report from Friday:

Beyond Mixon, the Texans listed two other players as out for Sunday's game, defensive ends Derek Barnett (shoulder) and Jerry Hughes (hip). Neither player practiced on Friday and their absence will leave the position thin going up against Bills quarterback Josh Allen. Expect to see Rashad Weaver get some playing time.

Jake Hansen (back), Kurt Hinish (calf), Dylan Horton (illness), and Tytus Howard (hamstring) will all be limited going into the weekend, although Howard is expected to play and will be a big boost for the offensive line.

Good news on the injury front, dynamic wide receiver Tank Dell will be returning to the lineup after being a full participant on Friday. The second-year weapon missed the Texans' Week 4 win with a rib injury but will be back in the fold on Sunday.
