New England Patriots captain Jabrill Peppers was arrested on Saturday morning in Braintree, Boston 25 reports.

"Police said he will be charged with Assault and Battery, Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Strangulation, and Possession of a Class “B” Substance," Boston 25's Ryan Breslin wrote.

The team released a statement after the news was made public.

"We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time," the team said.

During a radio appearance, Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo was also asked about the incident. Here's what he had to say:

"He called me that morning. I knew what was going on," the head coach told WEEI. "We informed the NFL what was going on and we're still gathering information."

So is he still on the team?

"I don't think anyone knows the facts or anything like that. It's a process," Mayo added.

During a press conference with reporters shortly after, he was also asked if he's heard anything about the NFL potentially placing Peppers on the Commissioners Exempt List.

"We informed the NFL and we're still gathering information. I know the team put out a statement earlier today," he said. "So I'm not sure how the league and how we are going to handle that going forward. But we should find out more information over the next few days"

The head coach confirmed that he has addressed the situation with the other players.

"I've already addressed it with the team, he explained. "As we gather information, I think the players need to know about it so we can learn from whatever happened."

So will he be welcomed back in the building at this time?

"As we gather information, he can he can definitely be in the building," Mayo said. "We don't know enough to say he shouldn't be in the building."

MassLive's Mark Daniels further reported that police responded to a disturbance at a home early Saturday. Peppers was arrested and will be charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of cocaine.

He will be arraigned today in Quincy

On Saturday, the Patriots downgraded Peppers to “out” due to injury. He had been listed as questionable with a shoulder injury throughout the week.
