Ohio State is focused on this season where they are 4-0 and have not really been tested yet. However, it is never too early to look a bit into the future, where the Buckeyes certainly won’t have a soft opening schedule like they did this season.

Next year, the Buckeyes will have to welcome in Texas to open the season in Week 1. When they do so, Arch Manning is in line to be their quarterback with Quinn Ewers likely going to the NFL following this season.

A recent injury to Ewers has allowed Manning to get some reps under his belt and his dad is not afraid to admit it is for the better.

“Selfishly I kind of look ahead to next year. Texas goes… in their opening game they go to Ohio State, in the opening game,” Cooper Manning said on Golf’s Subpar. “So selfishly, I’m glad that he had a few snaps and knows like what it is to start and play a little bit. Because going into Columbus for your first start of your life would probably not be the ideal opener, so I’m glad he has a little gray hair there.”

If Ewers had never been hurt, Manning’s first start very well would have come in Columbus. A to Z Sports recently wrote about that possibility because it is noteworthy. Instead, Manning has appeared in four total games this season and completed 70 percent of his passes for 901 yards. Manning has nine touchdown passes to two interceptions and has shown the Longhorns good potential for the future.

When next year rolls around, the Buckeyes will have a new quarterback as well. Will Howard is a graduate transfer who will have this season in Columbus, then there will be a quarterback completion. It very well could be former Elite 11 winner and five-star Julian Sayin who is the guy in Columbus next season.

Either way, it will be a good quarterback battle between two of the better programs in college football to start the season. Cooper admitting that he is glad that Arch isn’t making his first start in Columbus shows there is at least some worry from the Longhorn side about making that trip to Columbus.

“I don’t know who was drinking when they made that schedule, but dear goodness.”
