The Detroit Lions are an exciting team to have in Detroit right now. Everyone is happy that football is back, but they aren't the only excitement in town, there's a lot going on with the Detroit Tigers across the street at Comerica park.
A month ago the Tigers were a forgotten about team. It seemed like another down year for them. Then they won some games, then they won some more games after that and now they won't stop winning games. The Tigers have gone 29-11 in their last 40 games and they've taken on the moniker of the gritty Detroit Tigers.
There's a guy over at Ford Field who knows all about grit. He's made it one of the main facets of the Lions rebuild. We're talking about Dan Campbell of course. He was asked about the Tigers and their grittiness on Thursday and here's what he had to say:
"Yeah that's awesome dude. The Tigers were written off right in July, and I heard it was like, 'dude, these guys are done right?' and now look at them." Campbell said. "I don't get to watch a lot of it, obviously, with where I'm at. I keep up just knowing what's going on and hearing, 'Hey, man, they won again, they won again.' And so for that, man, I'm rooting for those guys. I love it because it just, I think when you teach what they're doing at a professional level, it doesn't matter where you're at. You just got to keep improving. And you just improve, improve, improve, improve, work, work, work. And that's what they've done. And they, you just don't know how many different kinks you're working through. And you know that you're trying to work out in this rotation and figure this out and work on this, work with this, and what about this and the lineup and and pretty soon you find it, and then you just get better and better and better. And that's what they've done. They're playing really good right now. So yeah, I'm I'm fired up for them."
The Tigers are currently in a playoff spot with a just a handful of games left to play. The Lions should be in the playoffs this year too. After the Red Wings almost made it last year, they should make it this year. The east is so bad the Pistons should at least make the play in. Detroit sports might be about to have a big moment here.
