Tennessee Vols true freshman defensive back Boo Carter had a fantastic game in UT's 33-14 win against the Mississippi State Bulldogs this past weekend.

Carter opened the game with a tackle for loss on Mississippi State's first offensive play. He later added an interception to go along with several impressive punt returns. Carter also had a big hit on Mississippi State quarterback Michael Van Buren, which forced a critical third down for the Bulldogs in the first quarter.

There's no doubt that Carter made a big impact in Tennessee's win against Mississippi State. But despite the impressive performance by the former four-star recruit, he wasn't included on 247Sports' list of true freshman standouts from Week 11 of the 2024 college football season.

This is the kind of thing that happens when folks just look at box scores. Carter's final stat line — two tackles, one interception and six punt returns for 56 yards — doesn't necessarily stand out. But if you watched Tennessee's win against Mississippi State, you saw Carter play like a veteran defensive back. He was all over the field, he played through the whistle while bringing plenty of energy, and he was the Vols' highest graded defensive back (with a PFF grade of 79.9).

Carter easily had one of college football's top performances by a true freshman in Week 11, regardless of the slight from 247Sports.
