After letting their season slip away before the bye week, the Cleveland Browns are in evaluation mode for the rest of the season with no real chance of competing for the postseason at 2-7.

This means the Browns have to let young players play to see what they have in them. One move the Browns have made is moving Dawand Jones to left tackle, where he has started the last two games for Cleveland.

The Browns made the move to go away from Jedrick Wills Jr. even with him being healthy, and they are evaluating Jones to see if he can be the of the future on the left side. After deciding he wasn’t going to play against the Cincinnati Bengals, Wills came back to not having a starting job.

“I mean, I decided myself that, I made a business decision not to play after the Bengals game going into that Ravens game because I was injured,” Wills said via Mary Kay Cabot. “And then the next week is when I received the news.”

Wills has not made a start since Oct. 6 against the Washington Commanders and only made four starts for the Browns this season. Since Jack Conklin has been healthy, the Browns have given him the right-side back for the most part. Wills struggled when he was out there, then being unavailable seemed to be the final straw before Jones received his chance.

The Browns have given Wills five seasons to earn the right to be the franchise left tackle they hoped he would be. He has not been that to this point, now he’s a swing tackle for the team until he becomes a free agent after the season.

“I mean, it was pretty shocking,” Wills said of getting benched for the Chargers game.

Availability is one of the biggest things in this league and if you struggle in that department, you are putting your job at risk.
