The Dallas Cowboys appear to be getting Micah Parsons back in time ahead Week 10's showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Naturally, that would be a major upgrade for a defense that has mightily struggled in two departments Parsons carries a lot of weight in: Pass rush and setting the edge versus the run. The Cowboys superstar is optimistic he'll be ready to go.
"My chances (of playing) are high," Parsons told reporters on Wednesday. "But we're just trying to see how the practice week goes, see what measures we've got to take to see how we're going to play this game."
Parsons was listed as a limited participant on the initial injury report, after being a non-participant since he suffered an ankle injury back in Week 4 of the regular season. He told reporters he was going at full speed in practice.
The news is extremely positive yet the timing of it makes it taste quite bittersweet for the Cowboys, who are 3-5 and have three losses in a row, all of which took place without Parsons on the field. They're playoff odds are below 5% per ESPN and FTN's DVOA efficiency metric and with no Dak Prescott around for now, it makes it very unlikely they'll overcome such math.
Parsons has been itching to make his return to the playing field and he explained the exact reason why it's been tough to be out: In some of these games, he might've given his team a legit chance at winning.
"I feel like it's tough just because I feel like I can make an impact in those games," Parsons said about being out during a stretch of games in which Dallas went 1-3. "I've played (Kirk Cousins) before, had a lot of success. 49ers—tough watch. I think in those games where we're losing by six points, I definitely believe I can make a difference. Six-point game, you're telling me me and (DeMarcus Lawrence) can't make a difference, get an extra stop, at one point in those games? It's hard for me to believe that we can't."
Considering Parsons is right at least about the Falcons and 49ers games, it just makes his likely return even more bittersweet. However, Parsons believes the Cowboys can still right the ship without Dak Prescott.
"I still believe we can make a run," Parsons added. "I've seen what Cooper Rush can do. That's a good boy right there (…) Cooper Rush has a lot of talent; he won games for us by just doing the basics, just playing good football. So, it's not like he can't do it. I've got full faith in him, we won four out of five games with him."
If Parsons returns to the field this Sunday, it won't be an easy task waiting for him as the Cowboys have the Philadelphia Eagles up next. Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are leading an efficient and explosive offense that tests defensive lines consistently.
The Cowboys will enter the game as home, seven-point underdogs. If they're to pull off the upset, they'll need Parsons to have a big game and for his feelings about Rush to be backed up by the backup quarterback. No pun intended.
