Murphy's Law took a sledgehammer to the Oklahoma Sooners' offense in their first season in the SEC. Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong for the Sooners. They've benched their starting quarterback mid-game twice, they've gone through what feels like a dozen offensive line combinations, and they fired offensive coordinator Seth Littrell two weeks ago.
While their search for an offensive coordinator won't be wrapped up for a while, they will finally be getting some good news on their offense for this season. On Oklahoma's latest injury report, wide receivers Deion Burks and Jalil Farooq were listed as questionable to play.
This is a massive boost for the Sooners' offense, which has been missing their top five starting wide receivers in all but one SEC game this season (Burks suffered an injury in their SEC opener against Tennessee).
Farooq suffered a broken foot early in the Sooners' season opener against Temple. His return to the lineup would be crucial to add that element of playmaking outside the Sooners' have missed. On his one target against Temple, Farooq posted 47 yards. Last season, he finished third on the team in yards and second in receptions.
Burks was Jackson Arnold's go-to weapon in their first four games. Despite missing the last five games for Oklahoma, Burks is still second on the team in targets and receptions and still leads the team in receiving touchdowns. Yes, it's been that bad.
Now with the Sooners building some momentum on offense after a positive showing against Ole Miss and a solid 59-14 victory over Maine last week, the offense could be in line for getting an even bigger boost with two key playmakers returning to the lineup.
These next three games (Missouri, Alabama, LSU) will be tough. With the Sooners one win away from bowl eligibility, they'll need all hands on deck if they want to clinch a postseason berth and build some momentum for 2025.
