If you had said before the season that Ohio State would be hosting an Indiana team that is ranked No. 5 in the country in late November, people would have thought you were crazy. But that is exactly what will happen on Saturday when the Hoosiers travel to Columbus.
For the Buckeyes, they need this win if they want to get back to the Big Ten championship game, where a rematch with the Oregon Ducks will likely be awaiting them. However, this Indiana team is one that Ohio State can’t look past because they are 10-0 for a reason.
The battle between the No. 2 Buckeyes and the No. 5 Hoosiers will happen at noon, but Ohio State head coach Ryan Day is still calling on the fans to have a big impact.
"This is a big weekend for all of us and it's a big weekend for our fans,” Day said on Monday. “When they're loud, it makes a huge difference and it's going to make a difference in this game. This has got to be a hostile and angry environment. We've got everything on the line this week.
We're gonna be practicing with an edge, we're gonna be playing with an edge this week. And I know that when Buckeye Nation shows up in that stadium, they're going to have an edge. There's going to be electricity in the stadium. And every time (Indiana) has the ball, I mean, it's going to be loud, which gives our entire defense a huge advantage.”
Ohio State is finishing the season with six straight noon games thanks to their involvement in Big Noon Kickoff. Still, Day is calling on the fans to be the loudest bunch possible even for the early game.
"Let's make it the loudest Ohio Stadium's ever been," Day stated. “That's what you want in November. You want it all on the line, you want a top-five matchup at home in November."
Indiana comes in with a high-scoring offense that is putting up 43.9 points per game while allowing less than 14 points a game. Indiana hasn’t been challenged a ton this year and their biggest may have been a five-point win over Michigan their last time out.
The biggest thing that the Buckeyes can’t do is overlook Indiana just because they’re not usually in this position. Ohio State has to take care of business against the Hoosiers if they want to reach the other goals in front of them.
