No receiver in NFL history has ever dominated a team like Bengals' Ja'Marr Chase has dominated the Ravens in 2024

The Baltimore Ravens have swept the Cincinnati Bengals and are positioned to battle the Pittsburgh Steelers for AFC North supremacy. They'll be thankful Ja'Marr Chase is no longer on their schedule for the rest of the way.
Cincinnati may've lost Thursday night in Baltimore, but Chase was far from the reason why. The fourth-year wide receiver put up 11 receptions for a staggering 264 yards and three touchdowns to boot.
That's a lot of yards in one game. Combine it with the 167 yards he posted in his last meeting against the Ravens, and you've got yourself an NFL record.
Ja'Marr Chase makes NFL history despite Bengals losing to Ravens
Chase's 264 yards were enough for the 24-year old to obtain the NFL record for most receiving yardage against a single team in a season. The record was originally set by former All-Pro Art Powell back in 1963 when he played for the Oakland Raiders.
Per AP's Josh Dubow, Powell racked up 428 yards against the Houston Oilers that season. Dubow's post on X/Twitter was sent when Chase passed the record and got to 431 yards. He finished the night with 457 yards!
Chase fell just short of 200 yards during the Bengals' first game against the Ravens back in Week 5 when he was capped at 193 and two touchdowns on 10 receptions. His first time crossing the 200-yard threshold came during his rookie year against none other than the purple and black team in the AFC North.
Shockingly, 264 yards isn't a career-high for Chase. He eviscerated the Kansas City Chiefs for 266 yards also during his rookie season, a game in which he also crossed the end zone three times.
Unlike those games from 2021, Chase couldn't reflect on this one with a smile as the Bengals fell by one point.
"It was an overall good day by myself," Chase told reporters after the game. "I wish we had the team win."
Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey did get to relish in the victory, but on Ja'Marr Chase after his 264 yards, 3 TDs:
"I'm tired of that dude. He's just different," Humphrey said of Chase after the game. "When he gets a ball in his hands, if you don't tackle him soon, it can get really ugly."
Yet somehow not ugly enough to lose.
Winning and losing is all that matters at the end of the day, but Chase should have this record for some time considering it took over 60 years to break. It's up to us to remember it despite what the scoreboard said on both occasions.
