Former NFL head coach reads Lions' QB Jared Goff's scouting report he made in 2016 and it sounds like the guy we see in Detroit today

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff has been on a hot streak as of late. In the last six games he's completing 83.3% of his passes and has 13 touchdowns to just one interception that was all the way back in Week 3. He's playing MVP level football right now and it's really been something that's surprising some people.
Although not everyone is surprised. Some knew it was going to happen all the way back in 2016 when Goff was coming out of Cal into the NFL. One of the teams that had a pre-draft meeting with him and was scouting him was the Dallas Cowboys.
The Cowboys, then coached by Jason Garrett had the fourth overall pick and they were in the market for a quarterback. Goff was one of their guys. They obviously didn't get him because he went first overall, but they did wind up with Dak Prescott later in that draft.
In a cool moment, Garrett sat down with Goff this week and actually went over some of his notes on Goff's scouting report from that year.
"That was such a good process. And people ask me all the time now about you, you're on this hot streak, and you know, I say very confidently. I knew Goff could play." Garett said. "We spent a lot of time with him, and he had the three traits that I think all great quarterbacks have. He's tough, tough, physically and mentally. He's got an instinct and a feel for the game, and he could stand in there under duress and make throws. And I kept thinking, like, Am I just saying that because I'm seeing that now?"
Then to Goff's surprise, Garrett took out the scouting report.
"There is the report. I dug into it. I'm going to read some of the highlights to you. Right nervous system, knows how to play, great pocket presence, steady, calm demeanor, was day one starter at Cal as an 18-year-old, natural, sees it, instinctive, very good feel, mentally and physically tough, 1-11 as a freshman to 8-5 and a Bowl win in three years."
It's not very often that you get to see something like that, but a lot of what you see there in 2016 is what you see from Goff now. Lions head coach Dan Campbell is always talking about Goff's mental toughness and how he's able to rebound back and not let things get to him.
You also see that calm demeanor. Can you honestly say you've ever seen an upset Goff? I don't think I've ever seen this guy lose control mentally. That comeback win over the Bears in 2023 told me so much about this guy's demeanor. After three picks, he didn't shy away from making some crazy throws and lead the team down the field on the final drive and they won. He's shown exactly what his scouting report said. There's a reason this guy was the first pick.
