The Washington Commanders (7-2) weren't the only team that wanted Marshon Lattimore.

They just wanted him more than the competition did.

Per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Commanders beat out the Super Bowl-contending Baltimore Ravens (7-3) for the four-time Pro Bowl cornerback. He said Thursday night that the Ravens offered up a third-round pick for Lattimore's services, but it wasn't enough to get the deal done. As we know, the Commanders sent a third-, fourth-, and sixth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for the former first-rounder.

The Ravens may have beaten the Commanders back in Week 6, but Washington got a little bit of revenge through the Lattimore trade.

"As for the teams that didn't get Lattimore, one of them is right there where you're sitting, [Thursday Night Football host] Charissa [Thompson]," Breer said on Amazon Prime's postgame show. "The Ravens actually offered a third round pick for Lattimore. Obviously, they got outbid by the Commanders."

Sure, Peters paid more, but as he mentioned Wednesday, the Commanders had a surplus of picks. Including an extra third-rounder that was "expendable", so to speak. And, Peters also noted how he got to keep the third-rounder he received in the Jahan Dotson trade, which is currently valued at No. 72 since the Miami Dolphins are sitting at 2-6 and things don't look like they're getting better anytime soon.

The Commanders aren't missing out on a third-rounder, so spending what is currently Day 3 picks in the back end of the respective rounds is a bargain. Considering what Lattimore has done over his career and what he can still do, it's a great move by the Commanders and it didn't come at hardly any cost via 2024 salary or 2025 draft picks.

Lattimore's hamstring injury is the only factor that could sour the move and it remains to be seen how that goes, although he's expected to play in Week 11 when the Commanders take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday Night Football.

Peters and co. are definitely doing things the right way. Now, they just need the football gods to be on their side. If that happens, the future will be as bright as its ever been in the DMV area.
