It's safe to say the Jacksonville Jaguars' season is not going the way the team envisioned thanks to a 2-7 start and Week 10 is going to be a big challenge thanks to Trevor Lawrence's absence.
It remains to be seen if this week's matchup against the Minnesota Vikings is the only game he misses, or if he misses next week's game against the Detroit Lions, as well.
The Jags are dealing with two other big injuries on offense in the form of wide receivers Brian Thomas Jr. and Gabe Davis. Thomas Jr. has been dealing with a chest injury he suffered a couple of weeks ago against the Packers and Davis is dealing with a shoulder injury that occurred during the same game.
Thomas Jr. played in Week 9, despite being limited all week, but Davis missed the Jags' loss to the Eagles. Both players were once again listed as questionable heading into Sunday, but both will play, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
The Jags have yet to use any practice squad elevations for the game, leaving Mac Jones with just Tim Jones, Parker Washington, and Devin Duvernay as the only wideouts on the roster. But, obviously, Jacksonville won't have to worry about elevating any other wideouts, if they don't want to, now that Thomas Jr. and Davis are in the mix.
Their availability is even more important when considering the fact that the Jags are going up against Brian Flores and the Vikings defense. Flores has his unit humming and it's been one of the league's best through the first half of the season. Not having a talent like Thomas Jr. and Davis (to an extent) would certainly put the Jags offense at a big disadvantage.
Per Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson, Thomas Jr. is progressing through his injury, which is great news for the star rookie.
"He is. I really appreciate BT. [There's a lot of] toughness with this kid," Pederson told reporters on Friday. "When it happened a couple of weeks ago, he didn't miss a whole lot of practice time. We limited him, but tough kid. He fought through it the last couple of weeks. But he's progressing well.”
Thomas Jr. has logged 595 receiving yards and five touchdowns off 35 receptions so far this year, while Davis has 217 receiving yards and two touchdowns off 18 receptions to his name.
