Ohio State’s offense was clicking in Week 11 when the Buckeyes blanked Purdue 45-0 to move to 8-1 on the season.
There were just two punts by the Buckeyes all day and Ohio State totaled 433 yards of offense against Purdue. A total of 260 yards came through the air and Will Howard had himself a nice day of football.
As he usually does, Howard connected with freshman Jeremiah Smith for a touchdown. Overall, Smith made six catches for 87 yards against Purdue. After the game, head coach Ryan Day revealed where Smith currently stands.
"You guys have seen it and now he's gonna have to play his best,” Day said after the game. “He's getting stronger, he's getting more experience, his understanding of coverages and different things."
When Smith scored his ninth touchdown of the season on Saturday, he passed Cris Carter for the most by a freshman wide receiver in Ohio State history. The talented freshman now owns all of the major freshman records and there are still multiple games left.
So far since arriving in Columbus, Smith has caught 45 passes for 765 yards with the nine touchdowns. From Day 1, the star wide receiver out of Florida is the best Ohio State has to offer and perhaps the best in the country. Now that he has nine games under his belt, Smith is a bit more of a seasoned player for Ohio State.
There are going to be some big moments that Ohio State needs Smith to step up in over the rest of the schedule if they want to accomplish their goals. If the first nine games of the season have shown anything, Smith will be up for the challenge.
