Ohio State was given a rare chance one would call a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play a football game inside of Wrigley Field in Chicago when they faced off with Northwestern. The Buckeyes rolled to a 31-7 win over the Wildcats to move to 9-1 on the season.
Four straight wins after losing to Oregon have set No. 2 Ohio State up for a top-five matchup next Saturday when they host No. 5 Indiana. A win for the Buckeyes would bring them a step closer to the Big Ten Championship game and a chance to play Oregon again.
Following the win over Northwestern, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day didn’t waste any time to thank Buckeye Nation for the way they showed up in Chicago.
"It was great to see Buckeye Nation traveling like this,” Day said after the win. “I even looked up and saw the stands from across the street and all the (scarlet) up there. We just really appreciate them supporting us in an environment like this."
Ohio State was well represented in Chicago and it may have been fair to say they had more fans there than nearby Northwestern. Specifically, Ohio State wide receiver Carnell Tate is from Chicago and had about 25 people in attendance for him at this game.
“People were fired up early on as you can tell they were just coming out the bars after opening at like 7 a.m., so it kind of got us fired up too.”
Ohio State fans have always traveled well and the Buckeyes will need them to do just that once the postseason starts. Before then, the Buckeyes’ last two games are at home against the Hoosiers and then Michigan.
Everything remains in front of Ohio State and their worst game of the season was a 32-31 loss to the Ducks in a game that the Buckeyes had a chance to win at the very end. The vibes are high in Columbus and they should stay this way as long as the Buckeyes don’t slip up.

It was exactly what everyone wanted to see happen.
