On Saturday, the Jacksonville Jaguars higher-ups seemingly soft-launched the mass firing of their coaching staff and front office.

You read that right. They allowed Ian Rapoport to run a weekend story essentially saying big changes would be coming if they fell to a league-worst 2-9 in Week 11. While this isn't surprising (in fact it's felt inevitable for weeks now), it is a pretty wild thing to see put out through the national media ahead of time. You can read if right here for yourself:

Unfortunately for the Jaguars employees fighting for their job on Sunday, they had the misfortune of playing the juggernaut Lions. Tough cookies.

The Lions beat them to a pulp. After an early 3-0 Jaguars lead, The Lions went on to win 52-6. It was the kind of game that makes you think the coaching staff already had plane tickets purchased for Fuji. With the Jaguars bye in Week 12, there is no question: Doug Pederson will be fired before their next game. It's just a matter of time.

But what about Jaguars GM Trent Baalke?

Well, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk said on NBC's Football Night in America broadcast that Baalke could somehow survive to see his 5th year at the helm.

"There's a belief in some circles that he could potentially survive into next year as part of a package deal that would reunite him with someone he worked with back in 1998 and 1999 with the New York Jets. That coach is available, he's won a few Super Bowls, his name is Bill Belichick."

What in the world is Shad Khan and Jaguars ownership thinking.

After having suffered the embarrassing consequences of the Urban Meyer experience just 4 years ago, Jacksonville decision makers are seriously considering another retread, power-hungry legend? And keeping Baalke in the process?

Sure, comparing Belichick to what the Meyer NFL stint ended up being is unfair. It's dissimilar in plenty of obvious ways. But what is there about a Belichick-Baalke regime that is even remotely modern? This team needs to get with the times like a fish needs water. It's time to clean house entirely and bring in a regime capable of turning around the direction of this Trevor Lawrence era.

Firing Pederson but keeping Baalke would be the stupidest part of this reported plan. Baalke is plain bad at this. He's 30-64 in his past 6 seasons as a GM. Let me repeat: he's been building teams for 6 years that have won 30 games and lost 64. And he is not only still employed, but he is reportedly in line to get another shot at this!

Baalke has 5 winning seasons in total during his 10 years as an NFL GM. 4 of those came with Jim Harbaugh as his Head Coach. Helpful! The other was two years ago with Doug Pederson in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars would be best served starting over entirely in the next fortnight. Take your Week 12 bye. Fire Baalke, Pederson, and put everybody else associated with them on notice as well. Then reset entirely for 2025.
