NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Titans (2-8) drafted cornerback Caleb Farley with the 22nd overall pick in 2021. After a catastrophic start to his NFL career, filled with both on and off-the-field struggles, Tennessee waived Farley after training camp this year before the Carolina Panthers (3-7) added him to their practice squad.

Carolina signed Farley to their active roster on Monday, signifying a huge step in the former first-rounder's NFL comeback.

Caleb Farley Beating The Odds

A native of Maiden, North Carolina, Farley is making strides with his hometown Panthers.

His football career in Tennessee was de-railed by a season-ending ACL tear in his rookie year, followed by a 2023 back surgery that sidelined him basically until this year's training camp. The physical struggles pale in comparison to the personal travesty Farley has had to overcome. After losing his mother, Robin, to breast cancer in 2017, father Robert died tragically in August of 2023 due to an explosion at the family's home caused by a gas leak.

Farley, always steadfast in his faith, handled the unthinkable with more grace and composure than anyone in their mid-20s should be capable of.

He now wears the No. 31 with Carolina to preserve his father's memory.

"When I came in for my workout, on the t-shirt was No. 31," Farley told ESPN Panthers reporter David Newton in October. "Y'all might not know. That was my father's number all through high school. Basketball, football. Just little things like that, not to make it too big, it's kind of like a pleasant, delightful part of that. I just enjoyed it, and I know my uncle and cousins enjoyed being able to see me get No. 31."

No person is more deserving than Farley, who has not allowed his circumstances to break him. That he has been made stronger though his personal and professional trials is a testament to him at every level.

Congratulations to Caleb Farley.
