Parting ways with draft picks has never been an easy thing for NFL general managers to do and that is what just happened for the Cleveland Browns.

In what is a surprising move, the Browns parted ways with third-year wide receiver David Bell on Thursday. Cleveland selected Bell in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.

Bell suffered a quad injury in the preseason opener that kept him sidelined until he returned to practice last week. Still, Cleveland kept him around on the initial 53-man roster and it appeared he would be in line to play Week 1 vs. the Dallas Cowboys. The former Purdue standout was at the back end of the wide receiver depth next to rookie Jamari Thrash but seemed like a player the Browns liked in this new offensive system.

Last season, Bell caught 14 passes and three of them went for touchdowns. In 2022 as a rookie, Bell had 214 receiving yards, which is the most he had in a season through his first two years.

Now, the Browns are rolling with Amari Cooper, Jerry Jeudy, Elijah Moore, Cedric Tillman, and Thrash. Cleveland very well could have made this roster move to bring an extra offensive lineman to the active roster with the uncertainty around left tackle and Jedrick Wills Jr.

Cleveland could bring Bell back if he clears waivers and very well might. Keep an eye on the Browns trying to get him to the practice squad, but there is some risk that he gets claimed.
