The New England Patriots have one preseason game remaining and that means that it is the final chance for some players to show that they deserve a spot on the 53-man roster.

There are of course some locks to make the roster, but there are other players that have a little more work to do to prove that they can be a contributing part of the Patriots team this season.

So here are the way that three players can make the roster on Sunday night against the Washington Commanders.

WR Kayshon Boutte

In the two preseason games, Boutte has been the team's lead receiver. However, he has not been getting numerous opportunities with the top receivers throughout camp.

Instead, he is running mostly with the second and third units.

Boutte didn't get a true opportunity in his rookie season, but was looking forward to the opportunity in Year 2. But it's a crowded room right now with a lot of tough competition. And it doesn't help matters that he isn't a special teams asset.

K.J. Osborn, Ja'Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, DeMario Douglas, Tyquan Thornton, and Jalen Reagor all appear to be roster locks based on how things have gone.

But there is still one spot that appears up for grabs. Boutte has the advantage over David Wallis in terms of experience, but the undrafted free agent has had some impressive returns during the preseason games as well.

Boutte needs to go out there and prove that he's a reliable presence on offense. It doesn't always need to be a big play that solidifies his spot. They need someone that they can always go to at any moment.

CB Marcellas Dial Jr.

The second preseason game was very rough for rookie cornerback Marcellas Dial Jr. He let up eight catches on 10 targets for 106 yards, with the Eagles targeting him numerous times throughout the night.

He acknowledged that it wasn't his best showing, but is focused on what he can do better next time.

“I look at it as a learning experience, because not every game is going to go how you want it to,” Dial said on Friday. “It’s how you come back from it. This game, I’m going to be more locked in and go out there and try to get better at something, no matter what it is.”

However, he has one trick up his sleeve that could earn him a spot on the roster.

Dial has been working as one of the top gunners on the punt team, which was a role that was previously held by Matthew Slater. He said that he played there a bit in college, but he's now letting it "become a big part of my identity."

Basically, he's leaning more into his special teams work to make him more valuable in a very competitive cornerback room.

“Special teams is a big part of it, especially with me coming into a stacked DB room. So, I just gotta get in where I fit in, and I feel like special teams is a way that I can potentially make this team, make this roster,” Dial explained.

K Chad Ryland

All the focus is on the Patriots quarterback competition, but there is another competition that is a bit underrated at the moment.

Chad Ryland had a rough rookie season so the team brought in a veteran kicker to compete against him, while also helping push him.

And for the most part this summer, the two have gone back and forth. However, in the past two weeks, Joey Slye has taken a serious lead.

It's coming down to one thing: reliability.

This summer, Slye is 43-of-52, while Ryland is 39-of-52. The interesting part is that Ryland is missing some of the easier kicks, yet he was able to nail a 47-yarder through the skinny posts in one practice this past week.

But he's just not consistent.

Slye has gotten every field goal opportunity in the first two preseason games, so if the coaching staff gives Ryland an opportunity this weekend, he needs to take full advantage of it.
