The family of a key Tennessee Vols commit has reportedly filed an NIL-related lawsuit.
According to Daniel Greene, an NIL attorney in Syracuse, the mother of 2026 five-star quarterback Faizon Brandon, a Tennessee commit, has filed a lawsuit against the State Board of Education in North Carolina.
At the crux of the lawsuit is North Carolina's NIL ban, which has apparently prohibited Brandon from accepting an NIL opportunity that "would provide Brandon’s family financial security for years to come".
Brandon, who is from Greensboro, NC, committed to Tennessee in early August. He's currently rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall player in the 2026 recruiting class.
This lawsuit shouldn't have any impact on Brandon's status as a Vols commit. It could, however, lead to much-needed change in the state of North Carolina when it comes to NIL deals for high school athletes.
