The Chicago Bears have released their first "unofficial" depth chart ahead of the Week 1 season opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Unofficial depth charts should be taken with a grain of salt. The depth chart is released by the team, but it's considered "unofficial" because they're not assembled by the coaching staff and they don't always reflect what the coaches have in mind. Certain personnel and packages are hard to predict based on the depth chart alone.

That said, generally speaking, these give you a good idea of where a player stands in the pecking order heading into a given week. With that in mind, here's a look at the Bears' first depth chart and some notes below:

New roster moves reflected on the depth chart

The Bears made several roster moves during cuts to form the initial 53-man roster. All of the cuts, trades, signings and other moves are reflected in this new depth chart. Here are where those new players are listed:

  • Darrell Taylor is DE3
  • Chris Williams is DT4
  • Scott Daly is LS

Interesting decisions made by the Bears in the depth chart

The first interesting decision that caught my eye on the first unofficial depth chart was Velus Jones Jr. listed with the wide receivers (WR5). Jones has spent the last few weeks of practice with the wide receivers and running backs. For roster/depth chart purposes, it looks like Jones is sticking with the WRs.

Secondly, newly added long snapper Scott Daly is still listed on the practice squad with no other long snapper listed ahead of him, meaning the Bears would have to release a player to add him to the roster for Week 1.

As for the offensive line, the front five looks to be set following Ryan Bates' injury. If Bates is unable to suit up on Sunday, Doug Kramer will backup Coleman Shelton at center and Bill Murray was listed at right guard behind Nate Davis.

Deandre Carter was listed as the Bears punt returner on the depth chart and backup kick returner behind Jones.

Roschon Johnson falls behind Khalil Herbert as the RB2 behind D'Andre Swift.

Darrell Taylor and rookie Austin Booker were the first edge rushers listed behind Montez Sweat and DeMarcus Walker. They were listed ahead of Dominque Robinson and Daniel Hardy.
