As soon as the Brandon Aiyuk saga was resolved, attention for the San Francisco 49ers turned to fixing a less public drama with Trent Williams.

It appears they are imminently set to do so, with ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting the 49ers and the 11-time Pro Bowler are trying to finalize a deal on a reworked contract.

The All-Pro left tackle landed back in the Bay Area on Monday, according to an Instagram post from his brother Fred, the video shows Williams exiting a plane and abruptly ends with four dollar sign emojis.

Williams missed the entirety of training camp and preseason while holding out in search of a reworked deal. The final three years of the six-year contract Williams signed with the 49ers in 2021 do not feature any guaranteed money.

That now looks set to change in a hurry, allowing the 49ers to get Williams, arguably the most important player on the San Francisco offense outside of quarterback Brock Purdy, on the field in time for the season opener with the New York Jets on Monday.

With a deal seemingly on the horizon, the question will become whether Williams can perform at his usual level with under a week to prepare for Week 1.

The 49ers' coaching staff and players have been consistent in stating their belief Williams will have done the necessary work away from the team to be ready for the season. All-Pro tight end George Kittle recently expressed confidence Williams could excel even if he did not show up to the facility until the day of the game.

He told 'Up and Adams': "If Trent pulled up the day of the (first) game, ready to play… in like a Rolls-Royce, I’d be like, 'Yeah, that sounds about right. You go, Trent. Do you, man!'

It appears as if Williams won't leave it that late to end his time away from the team, with the 49ers more than happy to bet on the future Hall of Famer to maintain his incredibly high standards at age 36 by handing him the guaranteed money he undoubtedly deserves.
