Can the Oklahoma Sooners Fix Their Offensive Line Before SEC Play Begins?
Entering their 2024 season, the main worry on the minds of Sooners fans was the state of the offensive line. Fresh off of losing all five starters (four to the NFL, one as a transfer) and still recovering from the shambles of years of Lincoln Riley's recruiting, the offensive line brought in several transfers at […]
Fortunately for the Sooners, several players who were held out or missed the game against Temple will return for either this week's game against Houston or shortly thereafter.
WR Nic Anderson
Anderson missed Oklahoma's season opener but seems like he is on the right track to return pretty quickly.
The Sooners will need him even more with the injury to Jalil Farooq. The sooner he returns to the lineup, the better.
C Branson Hickman
Hickman entered the season opener already banged up, but suffered an injury on the first series of the game. Later, Hickman was diagnosed with an ankle sprain.
Typically, these take a few weeks to fully recover some, but according to head coach Brent Venables, Hickman looked "really good" in practice on Monday. We'll see if he returns to the lineup against Houston or if they let him heal more before he returns.
C Troy Everett
Yes, the Sooners are missing their top two centers due to injury. Everett hurt his knee in spring and was forced to have surgery right after.
Venables didn't provide a timetable for his return but did say he was "close" to being able to return.
WR Jaquaize Pettaway
Many Oklahoma fans were wondering about why former four-star wide receiver Jaquaize Pettaway barely saw the field against Temple. Nine different receivers played, but Pettaway played just a handful of snaps, despite the injuries to the position.
Venables addressed those questions at his press conference Tuesday morning. Pettaway had been battling a hamstring injury the last few weeks. To keep him close to 100%, they didn't play him this week and risk a re-aggravation of that injury.
He'll likely ramp up his activity and involvement with the team this week. They'll need him with the injuries to their wide receiver room.
Other Sooners
Other Sooners were held out of Week 1 but will likely return to play against Houston or shortly after. They are as follows:
-RT Jake Taylor
-CB Woodi Washington
-CB Eli Bowen
-CB Gentry Williams (played but limited)
