The Ohio State Buckeyes stayed the same as the No. 2 overall team in the AP and Coaches Poll, but there's been movement within the voting, which is a revealing sign for the program. The Buckeyes are trending toward challenging for the top spot in one poll, and it's interesting to see the difference between the two voting measures.
Let's take a closer look.
Ohio State Lands No. 2 in AP and Coaches Polls After Week 1
Ohio State has earned a smaller share of the No. 1 votes this week in the AP poll, getting only five first-place votes this week. They had 15 before Week 1, when Georgia stomped Clemson in primetime this past weekend. Ohio State took care of business against Akron, but obviously, it mattered less.
Coaches weren't quite as impressed with Georgia's expected win. The Bulldogs had 46 first-place votes before Week 1 and 51 after it. However, the total points actually went in Ohio State's favor. The Buckeyes got more second-place votes, and Texas was the only other team to get a vote for first.
I think that's fair, given that Ohio State only played Akron and was favored by almost 50. Coaches gave the Buckeyes more grace for a weak schedule and punished Michigan and Florida State for their falters.
Unfortunately for Ohio State, no one will be too impressed until they face Oregon next month. Their schedule is unbelievably easy before things ramp up considerably. It's good to see Ohio State getting tuned up, as they'll need it.
If the Buckeyes win out, they'll certainly challenge or overtake Georgia for the top spot.
