The Green Bay Packers got very lucky. That's how head coach Matt LaFleur described what happened with quarterback Jordan Love on Friday night in Brazil, when the franchise player suffered an MCL sprain.

During an interview to Packers.com, LaFleur said it's more of a day-to-day injury, which probably means Love has a shot to play against the Indianapolis Colts — and if he does not, there will be a chance for Love to return soon thereafter.

"I'd say we got pretty good news, we got lucky that it wasn't more serious," Matt LaFleur said. "Certainly, that injury looked pretty gruesome on TV, and in person it was a scary moment for us. But i'd say it's more day-to-day than anything."

Matt LaFleur had already confirmed that Malik Willis will start against the Colts if Love isn't cleared by the doctors. But the starter is doing everything he can to be on the field quickly.

"He's going to continue to do everything he can to get back on the field as soon as possible," LaFleur added. "We got great resources around here. But in the meantime, if he's not able to go, Malik Willis will be able to be the guy."

Initially, Jordan Love was expected to miss something between three and six weeks of action. But based on Matt LaFleur's interview, the quarterback could be back even earlier. That certainly seems like a best-case scenario after what happened in the regular season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo.

Roster situation

The Packers decided not to sign any quarterback this week, which is also a good sign about Jordan Love's availability. Green Bay didn't even add a practice arm to the practice squad.

At this moment, Jordan Love and Malik Willis are the only two quarterbacks on the active 53-man roster. Sean Clifford is on the practice squad and might be elevated for gameday on Sunday if Love isn't available — that decision has to be made on Saturday, so Clifford will likely be elevated anyway, and there will be a question on who will be active until gametime.
