The Kansas City Chiefs got some bad news on Friday.

Wide receiver Hollywood Brown is being placed on injured reserve as he is set to have shoulder surgery this coming Monday, per Chiefs Vice President of Sports Medicine and Performance Rick Burkholder.

Brown suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation injury during the Chiefs' first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars back in August. It was initially believed that he would only be sidelined for 4-6 weeks, with Week 3 as a potential return date.

Unfortunately that will not be the case. Coach Andy Reid stated that Brown's recovery will take multiple months, putting in question if Brown will play at all this season. It's a major blow for Kansas City as Brown was its prize free agent signing during the offseason. He was going to be a big part of the Chiefs' offense and give a boost to a receiving corps that struggled last year.

As for Brown, he's taking the news as well as anyone could. He took to social media on Friday to not only give an update on how he's doing, but also shared an inspirational message to anybody who's facing adversity:

"Disappointed , frustrated, and Sad was the first wave of emotions once I realized I would need surgery but that only lasted a day or so because Of my Faith in God. knowing that this to shall pass , no matter the great opportunity I had in front of me. It’s not over and that’s not the path God wanted for me and I’m perfectly fine with that now . I feel it’s my duty to let everyone know out there no matter if things are going good or not going the way you want it to, never wary from your faith but to lean and trust into God no matter the situation…With that being said let’s enjoy some great football !!"

If Brown's recovery goes well it's possible that he could return during the back half of the regular season, or for the postseason. That would give the Chiefs a big boost at the most important time of the year. Until then, the rest of the Chiefs' receivers will have to step up, especially rookie Xavier Worthy. K.C. may keep its eyes peeled on the receiver market until November 5th's trade deadline.
