The Seattle Seahawks have listed starting running Kenneth Walker III as doubtful with an oblique injury for their Week 2 matchup against the New England Patriots, per NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.
This is a major blow for the Seahawks' offense. Walker is their workhorse back, rushing for 103 yards at an impressive 5.2 yards per carry and a touchdown during their Week 1 victory over the Denver Broncos. He was the most consistent part of an otherwise inconsistent Seattle offense last week.
The Seahawks sure could use Walker as they face a tough New England defense on the road. The Patriots proved in their upset win over the Cincinnati Bengals last week that they won't be an easy pushover this year. Quarterback Geno Smith and the rest of the Seattle passing attack will have to pick up the slack after a lackluster performance against the Broncos.
Stepping in for Walker will be second-year running back Zach Charbonnet, who had success filling in for Walker last year, racking up 157 total yards and a touchdown in two starts. Last week Charbonnet caught a 30-yard touchdown pass out of the backfield that essentially iced the game for Seattle.
Charbonnet struggled running the ball, however, averaging just 1.5 yards per carry. He won't replicate what Walker brings to the table, but he'll have to be better than that. If he can be affective enough to keep the Patriots' defense honest, Smith could have success off of play-action.
Hopefully Walker is back sooner rather than later. Many expect the third-year RB to have to have his best season yet in 2024. Walker has over 2,000 career rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns. He'll attempt to suit up again for the Seahawks Week 3 home matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
Seahawks Week 1 defensive performance vs. Broncos a perfect preview for what’s to come in 2024
Sunny days ahead for the rainy city.
