On Saturday, the Dallas Cowboys announced their practice squad elevations for Week 2 against the New Orleans Saints.

The Cowboys are once again calling up linebacker Nick Vigil, who played in 69% of the special teams snaps in Week 1. Vigil also saw significant playing time on defense late in the game versus the Cleveland Browns when Eric Kendricks exited the game due to hydration issues. The Cowboys are also elevating tight end Princeton Fant in light of Jake Ferguson's injury.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys doubled down on last week's decision to not elevate four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook for gameday, meaning he won't play against the Saints on Sunday.

The decision sparks questions about the Cowboys' running back room as it remains unclear what the team's intentions with Cook are. After all, he is one of the biggest names on the team but how good he is as a running back at this stage of his career is another conversation. Cook averaged 3.2 yards per attempt with the New York Jets last year and seemingly drew no interest from NFL teams to land on a 53-man roster.

Is Cook going to remain on the practice squad for the entirety of the season as nothing but a depth player? Or is the plan to get him in shape to play before making him a contributor this season?

Only time will tell as the coaching staff has been very ambiguous about what the plan is with Cook. Perhaps

“Dalvin is doing great," head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters earlier in the week via All City DLLS' Clarence Hill. "Fits in. Hopefully we can get a full week’s work this week and next week. Glad he’s here."

In the meantime, the Cowboys are leaning on Ezekiel Elliott and Rico Dowdle in the running game, and the coach admitted they want to get Deuce Vaughn more looks. A rough second half kept them from doing so against the Browns in Week 1.
