Texas running back Jaydon Blue said he merely rolled his ankle against Michigan when he hopped off the field and disappeared into the medical tent.

Texas coach Steve Sarkisian is giving Blue the night off Saturday to let him rest, just in case.

Blue was one of three players that was ruled out for Saturday’s game against UTSA, according to the Longhorns. Defensive lineman Aaron Bryant (knee) and defensive back Jelani McDonald (knee) will also be sidelined, or inactive, against the Roadrunners.

The Longhorns are already playing with a thin group of running backs after losing CJ Baxter and Christian Clark during training camp. Considering the Horns are looking at playing well into January, Sarkisian is likely considering this a preemptive step going into a game as 35.5-point favorites.

For his part, Blue was anxious to play again, no matter if it was UTSA or not.

“I just treat every game the same,” Blue said Monday. “I love football, so I don't really need anything to get me going. Just when they get closer to game day, I'm already going.”

With Blue out, Texas will lean more on Quintrevion Wisner and Jerrick Gibson, just as they did against Michigan. The Horns kept pounding it on the ground and rolled to a 31-12 win.

“It’s definitely been a roller coaster,” Wisner said of the running back injuries. “But as far as it's going, I've got a great foundation behind me with the coaches and the team. Every day they come in, they tell me, hey, you know it’s your time. But at same time, whatever comes with it, you’ve got to do what you got to do to help this team get better.”
