The Las Vegas Raiders just were not prepared for the punch in the mouth they got on Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, who are supposed to be one of the worst teams in the league but made the Raiders look that way. It was an embarrassing loss, as even the defense, which is supposed to be elite, was manhandled by a below-average offense.
There are injuries, sure. There are miscues and bad game planning. All of that contributed to what the Raiders did on defense on Sunday. Antonio Pierce says that the defense just wasn't ready and some players were making business decisions. It's not the Raiders we have come to know on the defensive side of the ball under head coach Antonio Pierce.
And, players were not happy about that. In fact, Maxx Crosby, one of the best players in the league who played through a high ankle sprain on Sunday, is challenging his teammates to look in the mirror.
"A lot of people have to look in the mirror…it's not the end of the world but it's a wakeup call, gotta be better, period," Crosby said in the locker room after the game.
The Raiders were not prepared at all, and when Pierce says business decisions, he means there was no effort out of several different players. That's just unacceptable, especially for a team like the Raiders, which prides itself on effort and toughness. None of that was shown on Sunday.
Maxx Crosby is being a leader by holding his teammates accountable without directly calling them out in front of the media. He knows who the guys are, and I'm sure he will have a conversation with those players, because what happened on Sunday simply cannot happen again. Crosby knows that, too.
