Titans wide receiver Tyler Boyd still believes Tennessee is a Super Bowl contender

NASHVILLE – Despite an 0-3 start to the 2024 season, the Tennessee Titans are remaining as confident as ever that this year's team has what it takes to succeed.
Without a few key mistakes on special teams and turnovers from quarterback Will Levis, the Titans could very easily be 2-1. But we can't just remove all the bad plays from the equation when determining what this team's identity is.
Up to this point, the Titans have been a sloppy football team that doesn't take care of the ball, force turnovers, or protect their quarterback. But perhaps some of those things will improve with time. Let's not forget all the new pieces that were added this offseason. According to Titans wide receiver Tyler Boyd, this sluggish start can be attributed to the growing pains of any group with roster turnover.
Boyd told Titans media on Wednesday that he still believes the Titans have a Super Bowl caliber roster. He also pointed to the AFC South as a division that is still winnable for Tennessee.
"I've been around it. So me coming in, I don't feel any type of stress or doubt that we can't get the job done," said Boyd when asked about the rough start to the season. "If you look at the conference, you've got two wins with the Texans and the Colts have one win. It's still winnable."
"Once we start to get that feel and have that confidence…I don't really know what it is yet. That's why we watched the tape, but we have a legit team. This is a Super Bowl caliber team on paper. But at the end of the day, we've got to go out there and prove that," said Boyd.
It's nice to see the Titans are not losing faith or jumping ship after a rocky start. Remaining steady in your focus, preparation, and belief is the key to crawling back into contention one game at a time.
But as someone who is not a player on the Titans sidelines every Sunday, I have to be honest about what we've seen. And this Titans team is far from a Super Bowl caliber roster.
Since 1990, 162 teams have opened the season 0-3. Only four of them (2.5 percent) have gone on to make the postseason and none of them have ever won the Super Bowl. That tells you all you need to know.
This team doesn't do anything well enough. They haven't been good enough in any area, as Brian Callahan said. Do I think it's possible for the Titans to play significantly better football and get back in the mix this season? I do. But any aspirations about the Super Bowl or a playoff run can safely be put to bed.
Sorry to burst Tyler Boyd's bubble. I like his optimism.
