The Minnesota Vikings are sitting pretty at 3-0 and are the talk of the National Football League. They have vaulted up the power rankings across the media and are a near-unanimous top-5 team in the NFL.
Pair that with how the U.S. Bank Stadium crowd has been impacting the game and you have a recipe for success. The Vikings have maximized everything in front of them thus far and they took their performance against the Houston Texans to a level that will help them down the line.
Minnesota Vikings get young players crucial snaps
With the Vikings up 34-7, the Texans had most of their starters still in the game. The Vikings did the smart thing and got multiple defenders playing time.
- S Theo Jackson: 16
- DT Jalen Redmond: 16
- DT Taki Taimani: 14
- EDGE Bo Richter: 13
- ILB Brian Asamoah: 13
- S Jay Ward: 9
For Richter and Redmond, it was their NFL debuts and they got to play somewhat meaningful snaps on defense. What's really important about them playing is they were a part of the defense that stopped the Texans offense with all of their starters in the game minus quarterback C.J. Stroud from scoring a touchdown.
That kind of playing time is valuable, especially if they end up having to play extended snaps down the line this season due to injuries. The Vikings are prioritizing development and it's going to end up paying dividends.
How Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell took a widely used concept and fooled the Texans defense is sheer brilliance
