Leading up to the Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Rams, the Chicago Bears have signed a new addition to the practice squad to fill the recently opened spot.

According to Aaron Wilson, the Bears signed former Houston Texans fifth-round pick Teagan Quitoriano to the 16-man practice squad after a workout on Tuesday.

Quitoriano fills one of the two vacant spots on the practice squad, one of which freed up after the Bears moved long snapper Scott Daly to the active roster.

Soon after adding Quitoriano, the team signed tight end Stephen Carlson to the 53-man roster off the practice squad in place of running back Travis Homer, who was placed on the injured reserve late last week.

With Carlson added to the active roster, the 24-year-old tight end now becomes the only player in the position group on the practice squad. After cut down day, the Bears hoped to bring back rookie Brenden Bates onto the squad, until he was poached by the New York Jets off the waiver wire.

Bates would have been the perfect developmental tight end for the Bears to keep around in the building, but now Quitoriano can fill that role for the team.

The young pass catcher has had his moments during his first two NFL seasons in Houston, but found himself in a crowded room and injuries didn't help his case.

During his rookie season in 2022, Quitoriano started the year on injured reserve with a knee injury. He finally made his regular season debut in Week 9 and even scored a touchdown on his first NFL reception over two defenders.

Quitoriano's best game came in Week 18 of his rookie year when he caught three of his four targets for 83 yards against the Indianapolis Colts. In 2023, he appeared in seven games before undergoing surgery to repair a groin and oblique injury.

To kick off the 2024 preseason, Quitoriano was back on the field and faced off against his new team during the Hall of Fame Game, where he recorded two receptions for 22 yards and a touchdown, all on the opening drive of the game. However, the injury bug struck again after he was later carted off the field with a calf injury that forced him to miss the remaining three preseason games.

After all the injuries he sustained, it was hard for the Texans to keep him around when it came time to trim the roster, leading to him becoming a free agent. Now that he's healthy, the Bears were smart to scoop him up off the market.

The guy is still young and has shown some good moments on the field in the passing game. He's also shown some flashes blocking as well. There's no harm in throwing a dart at that kind of combination to see what he could develop into.

Earlier on Tuesday, Wilson reported that the Bears also worked out Tremayne Anchrum, Jake Funk, Tony Jones, Anthony McFarland, Chris Oladokun, and Austen Pleasants. Olaodkun, the former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, also faced the Bears in the preseason, but wasn't near as successful throwing for 66 yards and two interceptions on 16 attempts in the preseason finale.
