This is a major move by the Vikings who only had their three rookies under contract past the 2024 season. While Phillips isn't an elite player, he is certainly one that you want to keep on the roster long-term.

Phillips is a versatile chess piece that the Vikings can slide anywhere on the line in whatever package they see fit. He is at his best as a run defender lining up anywhere from 0T-3T.

The move is also a nice cost-effective one for the Vikings. Outside of Chris Jones, the top of the market for DTs is around $27 million. The Vikings are giving Phillips about a third of that when he will give them a much-higher output than what the price is.

General manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah does it again when it comes to retaining key pieces.
