Things are going from bad to worse for the Indianapolis Colts struggling defense ahead of Week 3
The Indianapolis Colts' Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers felt like rock bottom for the defense. But hold your horses—it very well might get worse in the upcoming weeks. The Indianapolis Colts' Week 2 loss to the Green Bay Packers felt like rock bottom for the defense. But hold your horses—it very well might get worse in the upcoming weeks.
The team announced that they are placing star defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on the injury reserve, which will force him to miss at least the next four weeks.
Buckner was taken off the sideline on a cart after he required assistance to get off the field after an injury in Week 2. Many began bracing for the worst, with Buckner's injury looking potentially brutal upon replay. Luckily, he was able to avoid a major injury, but sadly for the Colts' defense, he still suffered a high ankle sprain and is heading to the IR as a result.
The team is hopeful that Buckner's injury won't hold him out too long, with the hope that he will be ready to go after his required four-game absence on IR. Injuries are a part of sports at the end of the day, but missing games is truly a rarity for Buckner. Before this, he has only been forced to miss two games in his entire NFL career. He has only missed one game since being traded to the Colts ahead of the 2020 season.
The hole left with Buckner having to miss time can't be overstated. He is the best player on the team's defense and arguably their entire roster. The Colts defense has struggled the first two weeks of the season, especially against the run, where they have allowed over 200 yards of rushing in both games. It'll be interesting to see how the team elects to replace Buckner's snap count. They could look to their depth defensive tackles: Adetomiwa Adebawore, Taven Bryan, or Raekwon Davis. Or they could look to use the positional flexibility that some of their defensive linemen possess, such as Tyquann Lewis and Dayo Odeyingbo. I personally vote for the second option, but we will have to wait and see what the team elects to do against the Chicago Bears in Week 3.
The Indianapolis Colts didn’t utilize Jonathan Taylor nearly enough during their Week 2 loss
The Indianapolis Colts put up a terrible performance in Week 2 and, as a result, fell to the Green Bay Packers by a score of 16 to 10. One of the only bright spots the team had on the day was from their star running back, Jonathan Taylor, who was far and away the best […]
Reggie Wayne doesn’t think Peyton Manning could have made the play Anthony Richardson did during the Colts season opener
While the Indianapolis Colts started the season with yet another Week 1 loss, they saw their young quarterback, Anthony Richardson, make some elite throws. Including his 60-yard bomb to Alec Pierce, which many have called the best throw they've ever seen in an NFL game. Colts legend and current wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne was asked if he has ever […]
