The Oklahoma Sooners have had three straight home games and are about to have their fourth straight game at home. But this one is far more important than the previous three, even though they were important wins. The Sooners are 3-0, and their real chance of losing their first game comes on Saturday, against the Tennessee Volunteers, as the three games prior were all sort of already written in stone that the Sooners would win.
To add to the importance, this is the Sooners' first-ever SEC game, and it's against a formidable opponent. The Sooners' first SEC game ever happens to be a ranked matchup, where No. 6 Tennessee will play No. 15 Oklahoma, in a matchup that has some history with Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel.
The Sooners are coming off of a win over Tulane, where the fans originally showed up to stripe out the stadium. When the game kicked off, the palace was packed with fans wearing their coordinated colors. But, by the time the third quarter was nearing an end, the stadium was more empty than it had been all year. You could see sections of seats opened up.
That can't happen on Saturday against Tennessee. Just to make sure, the players are asking for help from one Oklahoma legend.
"Usually, games start out great," linebacker Danny Stutsman said. "4th quarter, it wasn't to the standard. I'm sure Bob Stoops will call out the fans or something like that… It wouldn't hurt."
If the fans don't show up, there is no point in having a home game, because, whether you want to believe it or not, Tennessee fans do travel well. And, they are one hell of a team, so not having a home-field advantage would not help the Sooners. Bob Stoops has already opened up on this weekend and how important it will be for the two sides.
Saturday will be a movie and one that I'm sure the fans indeed will show up to. This is going to be too much fun.
