Winning the College Football Playoff this season is going to be the toughest it has ever been. There are going to be more games played than ever before due to the expanded field that now allows 12 teams to get in.

Ohio State and every other team will have to test their depth more than ever. That will include the quarterback position, as we see Wisconsin is dealing with after losing quarterback Tyler Van Dyke for the season.

Ohio State hopes to win it all with Will Howard at the helm this season. Still, they have to have other quarterbacks ready just like they had to back in 2014. Howard has the perfect approach to having the rest of the room ready and what it means.

"The way I look at it is, it's a collective effort. No matter what, I'm going to look to those guys in the room to be ready and as prepared as possible,” Howard said during his Tuesday media availability. “College football is so unpredictable. We have such a good quarterback room and guys that I like being around. Imposing as much knowledge as I can on the younger guys in the room. I want to help these guys as much as I can."

Imposing knowledge is key, like Howard mentioned. He has plenty of experience playing the last four years at Kansas State. He is off to a good start with the 2-0 Buckeyes this season. Howard is completing just under 65 percent of his passes with 520 yards and four touchdown passes through two weeks. The Senior has one rushing touchdown.

The Buckeyes have been able to get both Devin Brown and Julian Sayin snaps this season. Both are looked at to still be battling for the backup spot and Brown holds the slight edge. Sayin has the touchdown pass and is 2-of-2 passing for 61 yards. Brown is 5-of-6 for 63 yards.

These early games are key for Ohio State. Saturday against Marshall should give the Buckeyes another chance to get their backups some snaps in the second half. Getting the chance to do this before Big Ten play is key because you don’t know how much you’ll be able to play backups against better competition.

Howard stays healthy, then this won’t be an issue and he will be the guy for the 15+ games that the Buckeyes play this season. Still, the guys have to be ready behind him and he is playing a part in making that happen.
