NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans are off to an 0-2 start to the 2024 season after failing to finish two games they once controlled.
Tennessee's defense has been largely dominant, but a series of offensive and special teams miscues have cost them two games that could loom large when everything is said and done this season.
The way the Titans have landed at 0-2 has been hard to believe. But that's because Tennessee is continuing to make NFL history for all the wrong reasons and doing things that haven't been done in decades.
Making NFL History
The Titans made NFL history in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. The Bears became the first team ever to win a game after trailing by 17+ points and finishing the game with less than 150 yards of total offense.
A blocked punt TD, strip sack, and pick six courtesy of Will Levis contributed to that shocking loss. At the time, it seemed like a fluke loss…but then the Titans managed to repeat the same errors in Week 2.
On Sunday, the 2024 Titans became the first team to have a punt blocked, an interception, and a fumble lost in consecutive games since the 2002 Chargers.
And all of that is wasting a really strong start to the season by the defense.
Through Week 2, the Titans have allowed the fewest yards per game (206.5) in the NFL. If you take away the blocked punt for a TD (7) and the eight points that resulted from the pick six in Chicago, the Titans are also a Top 5 scoring defense.
The last time an NFL team was 0-2 with the fewest yards allowed through two weeks was the 1994 Arizona Cardinals. Tennessee is doing things that haven't been done in 30 years and the numbers just keep getting more unbelievable!
