Kirk Herbstreit said it best in the third quarter of the game: “I don’t even want to talk, I just want to watch this”.
Aaron Rodgers turned back the clock against the New England Patriots on Thursday Night, and thankfully not to the last time he started a game at MetLife Stadium.
Rodgers looked like his vintage, MVP-self, early and often en route to a 24-3 victory against the hated Patriots. The offense was one that Jets fans have been starved for over a decade, now. The ball was spinning off Rodgers’ hand and he was using all of his weapons while commanding the offense like the field general we all know he still can be.
Rodgers completed multiple passes to eight different receivers. He completed passes to only five different receivers in the Week 1 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and seven in the Week 2 win against the Tennessee Titans.
Rodgers even looked, dare I say, nimble. He escaped the pocket when he needed to while keeping his eyes down field. He was near-perfect when throwing on the run. He even ran the ball three times for 18 yards.
Rodgers ended the day with 27 completions on 35 attempts. He had 281 yards passing and two touchdowns, hitting Allen Lazard and Garrett Wilson for scores.
Jets fans have been so starved for this type of performance they didn’t even make it to the fourth quarter before they started serenading Aaron Rodgers to let him know how appreciative they were.
The Jets now have a “mini-bye” as they have 10 days to get ready to host the Denver Broncos. This comes after playing three games in 11 days to start the season. It’s some much needed extra rest for the 2-1 Jets.
